Aga Khan Palace

The Palace was built by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan. Agha Khan Palace is a historic building in Yerwada area of Pune. Situated near the River Mula, the palace is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and his life. In this Palace, Mahatma Gandhi was kept under house arrest from 9 August 1942 to 6 May 1944 along with his other colleagues. There is also a museum in the building, in which pictures related to the life of Bapu have been preserved in the form of memories.
Here items of personal use of Bapu and Kasturba, such as their sandal, charkha, utensils, books, clothes, and glasses have also been kept. The Palace has developed into a national and international place of pilgrimage with over a lakh of visitors every year who come to pay homage to the Samadhi here. The palace is surrounded by a sprawling garden. The famous movie 'Gandhi' was shot here.
